Introducing Sleeping Village, Chicago’s Newest Venue

March 29, 2018

React Presents - News Flash

If you’re a regular attendee of React shows, you’re likely familiar with the roster of amazing venues we work with all around Chicago and the Midwest. We’re stoked to add another one to the list with the recent opening of SLEEPING VILLAGE!

Located in the heart of Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood, the new space comes to us from the owners of Logan Square cocktail hangout The Whistler, and aims to combine the best parts of a craft beer bar, intimate musical venue, and year-round outdoor patio space. From a sound and technical standpoint, the intimate new venue will offer incredible lines of sight and an immersive sonic experience.

React’s first show at Sleeping Village will feature Lanz, The Penny Serfs, and Laska on Thursday, April 26th (tickets available HERE). If you’re not already keen on the music of Benjamin Lanz, you’ve assuredly heard his associated projects, serving as a founding and still member of Beirut, along with being a touring member of both The National and Sufjan Stevens, in addition to myriad collaborations with others. His newest album Hoferlanz II is set for release on April 13th and the first single, “Auckland,” is streaming HERE.

On June 7th, we welcome soulful disco-pop wonder Gavin Turek (tickets on sale Friday March 30th at 12pm HERE). Armed with some of the best dance moves you can learn and an effortless panache for the timeless disco styles of the 70s, Gavin Turek has found a way to make pastiche the present, drawing on sounds of soul and disco to create a brand of new pop music that is uniquely her own. Her newest EP, Good Look For You (LISTEN HERE), came out in 2017 to nearly universal acclaim, and even earned a spot on Complex’s 50 Best Albums of 2017 year-end list.

To say we’re excited to welcome a new friend to the club is an understatement. We look forward to teaming up with Sleeping Village for a bunch of great shows in the near future. Stay tuned!
