“We are excited to welcome Chicago to our Communion Club Nights family! Following in the footsteps of our other Club Night markets including New York City, DC, Philadelphia, Nashville, Kansas City, Twin Cities, and Louisville, Chicago will be making it’s first appearance this February 19th at Schubas. We are also thrilled to be partnering with Chicago-based promoters React Presents & Silver Wrapper to bring Chicago the best new music,” says Communion.
The Club Nights serve as a one-stop shop for artist discovery, with an impressive roster of alumni which includes Ben Howard, Gotye, Walk the Moon, Twin Peaks, Trampled By Turtles, Bear’s Den, Rubblebucket and Magic Man.
Filligar is an alternative/indie rock band recently described as “one of the best young bands in America.” They have toured to enthusiastic audiences all over the world-from North and South America to Europe and the Middle East. Filligar’s latest record Hexagon (Decade Records, 2013) has been named “Best New Music” by American Songwriter Magazine and “a fresh take on indie rock” by Paste Magazine, while their previous release was nominated “Best Rock Album” at the 2012 Independent Music Awards. By appointment of the U.S. State Department, Filligar has served as cultural ambassadors representing “the best of the U.S. arts community” to Azerbaijan, Kuwait, and Guyana.
Kristin Diable has been exploring freedom and choice in her music ever since she picked up an open mic at a lounge in Baton Rouge and stunned the audience into silence. She rode that vibe, away to New York and then back to her native Louisiana like a storm front, one that shook New Orleans and cooled the air. And her newest album,
Create Your Own Mythology, invokes her Louisiana and Americana roots, while firing a rock-and-roll shot across the bow of borrowed myths
Marian Hill returns to February Club Nights after her sold-out EP release show in NYC for their first Chicago show! Comprised of Jeremy Lloyd (production/songwriting) and Samantha Gongol (vocals/songwriting), the pair’s roots can be traced back as far as a middle school talent show that saw Lloyd – the son of a conductor and an opera singer – hear Gongol sing for the first time. Many a moon down the line, following a stint studying music composition at college for Lloyd while Gongol was cutting her teeth in New York as a songwriter, the pair reunited in the former’s bedroom studio. “Got It” and “Lips“, the latest offerings from the duo from their latest EP Play, might be the finest syntheses of their output to date.
Martin Van Ruin, the new project from some familiar Chicago faces (members of Derek Nelson & The Musicians, Jenny Dragon, Planetsexploder), have just released their full length debut album Every Man a King. Every Man a King, was written over a year and recorded and engineered by Neil Strauch (Bonnie Prince Billy, Iron and Wine, Andrew Bird) and was recently named “One of the best local albums of the year” by The Chicago Tribune.
React Presents is extremely excited to partner up with our friends at Silver Wrapper & Communion to welcome Club Nights to Chicago! Expect more announcements for this series in the coming weeks!
