On Thursday, June 30, rock and roll veteran David Bazan will make an overdue return to Chicago’s famous Lincoln Hall for a soulful and defining live performance. Following the release of his most recent, 10-track album, Blanco, the Seattle-bred musician’s following is eager to experience his brand new creations.

Back in March, the album’s first single, “Trouble With Boys,” was premiered via Paste Magazine. The track is described as “stripped down,” full of “shiny waltzing synthesizers and audibly pitched percussion,” and that it “seems to reach far and take up a lot of space.” The result is a droning, anthemic ballad that relies chiefly on its melancholy yet inherently meaningful sonic atmosphere to carry the lyrics forward.

After spending half of his last decade away from home on tour, Bazan returned to his basement to record a series of songs that seek to capture the people and feelings that he leaves behind when traveling. With a newfound style comprised of layered drum machines and distorted synthesizers, his identity as a true cut singer/songwriter has been left behind.

With another premiere on Stereogum and the wind at his back, Bazan will enter Chicago with an entirely new side of himself to share with the welcoming audience.
